Description
Our Mission Statement:
As a member of the worldwide Anglican Communion and the universal Church, we proclaim and celebrate the gospel of Jesus Christ through both worship and action.
We cherish our heritage of biblical faith, reason, liturgy, tradition, bishops, and synods, as well as the rich diversity of our community life.
We recognize God's call to embrace greater diversity in membership, enhance participation in ministry and leadership, improve stewardship of creation, and challenge injustices in attitudes and structures.
Guided by the Holy Spirit, we commit to responding to this call with love and service, striving to embody the life of Christ more fully.
The Anglican Church of Canada does not confine its doctrine to a single confession. Our beliefs are expressed through our liturgies and the following key documents:
- The three historic creeds: the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed.
- The Solemn Declaration (1893), which established the Anglican Church of Canada as a national church and defined its relationship with the worldwide Anglican Communion.
- The Lambeth Quadrilateral (1888), which outlines commonalities within the Anglican Communion and serves as a basis for ecumenical dialogue.
- The 39 Articles of Religion, which were a foundational document for the Church of England during the Reformation.
- The Five Marks of Mission, which guide current work at the General Synod and are widely used throughout the Anglican Communion.
