Description
On July 22, 1946, Most Rev. John T. Kidd, Bishop of London, officially established Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. The groundbreaking for the new church took place on August 24, 1946, and the parish was dedicated on September 8, the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with Holy Mass celebrated in a temporary structure at the former St. Francis School.
The rectory was completed on March 3, 1947, and on June 27, 1947, Bishop Kidd officially opened the new basement church, which served as our place of worship for the next 14 years.
In 1961, construction began on the upper church, which, thanks to the generous donations and pledges from our community, was completed and blessed on September 30, 1962.
Reflecting on these 72 years, we recall the hard work, determination, and dedication of our faith community. Today, our parish stands as a vibrant, spirited, and culturally diverse congregation, attuned to the world's challenges while steadfast in our Catholic values and traditions.
As we look to the future, we are inspired by the promise of our many young families, who will continue to carry forward the spirit of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and ensure a bright, faith-filled future.
